Johnson City, Tenn. - Former East Tennessee State University (ETSU) football teammates will face off on the gridiron when the Buccaneers travel to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State University (App State) on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Excited for the Matchup

Several former ETSU players are now on the App State roster, including:

  • Defensive back Tae Hayes
  • Linebacker Trey Cobb
  • Wide receiver Malik McGready

The former teammates are excited about the opportunity to compete against each other once again.

“It's going to be a great feeling,” said Hayes. “We're all looking forward to it.”

Cobb added, “It's going to be a lot of fun. We're all good friends, but we're going to be competing hard on the field.”

A Special Opportunity

The game will be a special opportunity for the former ETSU players to showcase their talents against one of the top teams in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

App State is the defending FCS national champion and is ranked No. 1 in the preseason FCS Coaches Poll.

The Buccaneers are looking forward to the challenge of facing the Mountaineers.

“We're excited about the opportunity to play App State,” said ETSU head coach Randy Sanders. “They're a great team, and we're going to have to play our best to compete with them.”

The game will be televised on ESPN+ and will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET.
