Prisoner Swap Announcement

Historic Exchange Includes Wall Street Journal Reporter

Byline: Staff Reporter

In a major breakthrough, a prisoner swap involving seven countries has secured the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and two other Americans who were being held captive. The United States and Russia played pivotal roles in this complex exchange.

As part of the agreement, Russia released Gershkovich, who had been detained for over a year. The United States, in turn, released Vadim Krasikov, a Russian national who had been sentenced to life in prison in Germany for a 2019 murder.

The exchange was facilitated by extensive negotiations and diplomatic efforts. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in securing the release of the American citizens.
