Congressman Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) has pleaded guilty to falsely pulling a fire alarm in the Capitol's Cannon building on September 2022. CCTV footage captured the incident.

According to a report from the Capitol Police, Bowman entered the building around 11:00 pm and proceeded to pull the alarm, despite there being no fire present. The incident triggered an emergency response by Capitol Police and firefighters, who quickly determined that there was no actual emergency.

Bowman was subsequently charged with one count of falsely pulling a fire alarm, a misdemeanor offense under federal law. He initially denied the allegations but later pleaded guilty to the charge.

Bowman is scheduled to be sentenced on March 24, 2023. The maximum penalty for the offense is one year in prison and a fine of $2,500.
